Kit provided by us, for you to keep:

  • Map Sheet OL 25, 1:25 000,
  • Map Case
  • Compass
  • A bag ration & water

Kit you must provide yourself:

  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Warm hat
  • Gloves
  • Hiking boots that have been broken in
  • Gaiters are recommended
  • Sufficient warm clothing for halts
  • A flask for hot drinks
  • Walking poles are also a benefit

It is essential that all yompers can handle the conditions. Therefore, you must bring adequate clothing, waterproofed in a daysac, or equivalent, suitable for the task. You must also consider that it may be very hot and dry. Sun cream and a sun hat are required.

The yomp is meant to be instructive, fun and satisfying. Dave and Andy will provide the banter and spin dits, as well as the solid expertise to ensure that no one gets lost.

However, this is a golden opportunity to practice your navigation skills by traditional methods. No GPS will be used by us.

We will aim to move at about 3kms per hour, weather and ground permitting. This speed will give us adequate time for halts, water stops, scran, photos etc.

We shall move as a group and stick together.

Before deploying onto the moor there will be a kit check to ensure that all are properly equipped. Those who do not have the required kit will not be allowed to yomp.
